What I've done |
Although I have always been fascinated by the power of language, my first encounter with foreign language was in high-school Spanish. I was immediately captivated by the idea of learning another language and began to buy every Spanish-language magazine, music and book available. I immersed myself in local Hispanic culture and began to plan trips to Spanish-speaking countries. Upon high-school graduation, I decided to study a Bachelors of Arts in Spanish at Oklahoma State University, and during my studies I sought out any possible experience to improve upon and expand my knowledge of the Spanish language and of Hispanic cultures. I traveled to Mexico and Spain, spent six months studying and working in Peru, and graduated with my B.A. in Spanish in 2012.
After graduation, I moved to Massachusetts where I taught English as a Second Language to students in first through fifth grade, moving eventually to a position as a third-grade teacher in a Two-Way Dual Language Program. After spending two years teaching in Massachusetts, I decided to move back home and discovered the incredible teaching and learning opportunities available at John Rex! I taught second grade for our "launch" year (2014-2015) and was very excited to begin a Spanish program in the 2015-2016 school year! In addition, I am JRCES's English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher. I recently graduated with a M.Ed. in Bilingual Education and Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) from the University of Central Oklahoma, and I utilize this experience to work with JRCES's English Language Learners to support and further their English language development. |
What I'm doing now! |
I love to spend every spare moment traveling to learn more about world cultures and languages. I speak English, Spanish, and Portuguese and am looking forward to further expanding and sharing my passion for language!
